What to Expect Before, During & After Your CO2 Laser Resurfacing
Avoid retinoids, AHAs, and strong skincare acids for 5 to 7 days before your session. Avoid direct sun exposure and self-tanner for 2 weeks. Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, alcohol) for 5 to 7 days. Arrive with clean skin and no makeup or skincare products on the treatment area. Arrange for someone to drive you home after your session.
Topical anesthetic is applied first before treatment begins. Most clients describe the sensation as warm, prickly, or mildly stinging across the treated area. Your provider monitors the skin response throughout the 90-minute session to keep you comfortable and the treatment precise.
Redness, swelling, and bronzing of the treated area. Use cold compresses to manage discomfort. Keep the skin clean and moisturized. This phase feels similar to a sunburn.
Peeling and flaking begin as damaged outer layers shed. This is a normal and expected part of the healing process. Do not pick or peel manually.
New skin becomes visible as peeling resolves. Most clients reach social downtime resolution by day 7.
